An energy-efficient, low-cost single-family house for a designer couple in Barcelona. The building consists of two elements: a steel and concrete ground floor and a prefabricated timber first floor. The two levels are separated by a continuous glazed strip, which also acts as a barrier against termite access to the timber structure. Built using platform-frame technology, the timber volume is very well insulated. To protect the wood from the Spanish sun, the upper level is finished in light grey paint. Total gross floor area: 120 m².
