Terrassa is a city on the outskirts of Barcelona with a strong industrial heritage. Our client owned a vacant industrial building in the city centre, in an area that had been gradually converting to new uses over the preceding decades. The brief was to renovate a 1960s industrial building and adapt it into a school for infant, primary and secondary education. The building's considerable depth — over 30 metres — made it possible to create generous corridor spaces that could serve as multipurpose extensions to the classrooms. Due to site constraints, sports facilities were placed on the building's roof, while the cafeteria and auditorium were located in the basement. The project was ultimately not built.
